How Do Orthotics & Braces Work?

When you come to us for treatment, we’ll measure your foot size to design a personalized orthotic that is custom molded to fit over your foot. This will greatly stabilize your foot movement. If you are facing some bio-mechanical deficits, orthotics can prevent the risks of foot injuries.

1- In Therapic Physiotherapy Clinic, our Physiotherapists will start by taking your history, see if you have pain or foot concerns. The physiotherapist will need to know any activities or sports that you engage in regularly to determine your needs and how you will be using your orthotics.

Following the history, the physiotherapist will conduct a biomechanical assessment. The biomechanical assessment involves three components:

· Range of motion assessment

· Weight bearing assessment

· A gait analysis

At Therapic Physiotherapy Clinic, we will take your footprint using a foam cast and send it to Podiatric Laboratory to manufacture your orthotics.

2- Your orthotics will be manufactured under supervision of a Podiatric Medicine Doctor who oversees the production process in the Podiatric Laboratory.

The orthotic will be ready within one week after we take your footprint. We will schedule an appointment with your physiotherapist for an orthotics fitting. At this appointment, you will get to try out your new orthotics for fit and comfort. You will also be given instructions on how to break in your new orthotics and educated on signs that the orthotics may not working properly. There is no fee for this appointment: it is included in the cost of your orthotics.

Custom orthotics are covered by most extended health insurance plans in part or in whole.

If you wish to claim your custom orthotics through your private insurance, most insurance companies require some documents which are: a Family doctor prescription, an invoice for the orthotics, and a gait and biomechanical assessment.

You should ask your family doctor for a prescription for the orthotics and our clinic will provide all the documents you need to submit your claim and receive coverage.

You can either pay the orthotics fee in full, or leave a deposit on the day of the biomechanical assessment and casting.
